The Rawalpindi Development Authority has released a public advisory urging citizens to verify the status housing societies before investing in real estate.
The RDA is actively monitoring and regulating housing schemes. It has a mandate to take action against illegal developments. The authority has so far issued legal notices for 560 schemes. 218 societies have been charged and their cases sent to the magistrate court. In addition, 221 First Information Reports have been filed against those who violated the rules.
Director General Kinza Murtaza urged potential investors to make use of the resources at the RDA office or visit the official website, www.rda.gop.pk, for reliable information on the legal status of housing societies. She pointed out that currently, 71 housing schemes in Rawalpindi have been approved, 74 are under review, and an alarming 359 schemes have been identified as illegal.
“The RDA website is regularly updated with the latest status of housing schemes, and we are dedicated to raising public awareness,” Murtaza emphasized.
The RDA took strict measures to ensure compliance. It sealed the offices of 184 schemes, demolished illegal buildings, offices and the main entrances of 200 societies.
The RDA also requested the help of the Cyber Crime Wing (FIA), which is part of the Federal Investigation Agency, to combat illegal advertising, plot bookings and publicity campaigns relating to unauthorized housing schemes.
The RDA is taking legal action against those who violate the rules. Murtaza said that “all-out efforts” were being made to ensure the law’s compliance.
